If one thing goes wrong… July 21, 2008

Filed under: House Quest, Vents — Tessa @ 7:13 pm

Everything goes wrong. And today was such a day for me, a day to stay in bed and sleep away the day. And it isn’t even Friday the 13th.

  1. It started with my dad telling me and my mum that the front window of our car was broken. When I took a look it was apparent that some weirdo, with its drunken head, thought it funny to through a bike at our car. The result: A totally new front window, scratches on the paint and a few dents. On a brighter sight, the front window already was broken a tiny bit, now we’ve got a perfectly looking window.
  2. Okay, car window was broken. What does one do when that’s happened? You call the “Carglass”. A 24/7 service for reparing windows of cars. Yeah, but not during the summer period. It wasn’t really that save to drive around to the place, so we asked if someone could come. That was alright, like next Thursday alright! So my mum brought away the car, took home the bus, was back home for about fifteen minutes and my phone rang: carglass; we could pick up our car after 11.15 hrs.
  3. Car picked up, up to my appartment to see how the contractor is doing. He had worked one day so far, and he should have started June 30th. But he has been there again. The result: a broken door window, water tap disappeard, ceiling in the bathroom gone (never told him to do that). I called the man and asked him all about those things. I got my answers and about one thing they would phone me back.
  4. When finished with some wallpaper removing, me and my mum went to a store called “Kwantum” to see if they had a nicely prized wallpaper, which could stand my approval. That happened to be the case. What also happened to be the case was the phone call from the contractor I was awaiting. Something went wrong with ordering the kitchen cabinets. Now it would take up to six weeks for them to be delivered. That’s the end of my holidays! I wanted to be living there at the end of my holidays. The contractor told me he would already be finished! Now all my plans of redecorating the place are kinda put on hold.
  5. When I got my stuff from Ikea two weeks ago, one of the packages was damaged. The company that delivered would take it back and contact me when they would be able to deliver a new one. So far, in those two weeks, all I know is that it has been ordered by the delivery company at Ikea. No phone call yet as to when to deliver it at my place.
  6. On July 8th my washing machine and microwave would have been brought. When I called the day before to listen for the time, the deliver adress was not known. My mum handled it the next day and a new date had been set: July 22th. Now I’m calling and so far delivery times are not available and I have to try later again.

I wished I’d stayed in bed and slept during this horrific day :(

P.S. now at 8.45 pm I called again (see point 6) and yahooo! They will arrive between 12 and 3pm.

Unbelievable how time flies by. One more week of work, one more week of teaching, one more week of tired kids and I’ll be having my summer holidays in which I can start working on my appartment. A lot of things need to be done and evening the constructor hasn’t started yet. He was supposed to start last Monday, but it has already become upcoming Monday. I’m definitely taking a look right after work that day, and when Wednesday still nothing has happened, I’m going to be very angry.

As I said, one more week of stressing and I’ll be having my holidays. It’s going to be a busy week with cleaning up and all. Tuesday the oldest children from group 8 (11-12 years old) will be having their goodbye party. First they will play softball against all the teachers, then they’ll be performing a musical and have their gifts etc. That means that I won’t be going home that day until around 10pm: a 9 and 1/2 hour work day. Most of the time it’s fun, but because I’m extremely tired at this time of the year, I’m not looking forward to it most of the time. Oh well…

A month or two ago, I promised I would upload my own photos I’ve taken of my appartment as soon as I got the keys. Never got around doing that, so when you look behind the cut line, you’ll get a treat of a lot of photos of my appartment of how it looked when I got the keys. It needs a renovation as you all know, and I’ll be showing the very, very slow progress of it here…

Time flies by June 22, 2008

The last post has been two weeks ago, when Euro 2008 had started along with my week off. The week off ended last weekend, when The Netherlands beat France. I wanted to write about that last weekend, however, my internet provider decided to shut down Saturday and only started working again somwhere at Wednesday. Let’s just say I was not a happy camper those days.
This last week has flown by, it’s unbelievable how fast a year goes. Four more weeks and I’ll be having my six weeks holiday. If I think of all the things I still need to do this month, I’m starting to get worried on how to manage that. Wednesday I talked with the kids about the game The Netherlands – Romania, since they played last Tuesday. It was fun, and of course I told them Friday to cheer of The Netherlands last Saturday. It was no good. Euro 2008 is over for The Netherlands. Russia definitely was playing better and rightfully earned their spot in the semi finale. Ironic actually, since their coach (Guus Hiddink) is a Dutch man. On a brighter side, the children of my class don’t have to stay up late anymore *grin*. However, I don’t think it will make much difference. They are still tired, I’m still tired and we all need the break.
I won’t go away (normally I would go out of the country), this time I will stay home in my new home. Five more days, five more days and the appartment really is mine and I will be having the keys to it. It’s a strange thought though. I still remember the anxiousness whether or not they would except my bid. I will show photos I’ve made myself next weekend ;) .

What to do… March 23, 2008

with an, in my eyes, totally being unfair webhost?! I’ve had it with them. Seriously, I have. If you want to know which host I’m talking about, leave me a comment with an addy and I’ll fill you in. After 4 years of having my website at their place, this last year it’s only giving me trouble, thanks to some lovely hackers who think it’s nice to hack a website! Last time that happened, it took me three months to get my site online and according to them it was because I’ve been a long time member without any troubles. This weekend I had troubles logging into my cpanel, emailed them and it took two days for they replied. When they had, it was a small email telling me they’d reset my password and really, I could log in again. When I did I saw someone had added emailaddresses. So emailed them back, and this is what I get: Site taken offline. I’ve learned my lesson, let me tell you that! Never email back when unexpected things have happened to your site, even if you think they’ve might have done it as a test.

And of course all this had to happen on a Sunday, during Eastern, so the earliest time I’ll get an email back will be Tuesday. Seriously, I’m already searching for another webhost (anyone any good recommendations? I’d rather have a Dutch one though). I’m not so sure they will put my site back online a second time (although I threathend to refund the money back to my own bank account if they wouldn’t, I’ve just paid for a whole year). However, I do think it ridiculous that because of another person’s hackwork, they’re punishing me with an offline site! I’m not so sure I see justice in that. Why won’t help people by letting them know what the weak spot is, so they can do something about it. And when they haven’t done anything about it, okay, then I’ll understand why it’s been closed. Or maybe I’m just to naive concerning things like this.
